Dinniman, Rzucidlo Endorsed by Humane PA
WEST CHESTER (October 17, 2016) – State Senator Andy Dinniman and Susan Rzucidlo, candidate for Pennsylvania State Representative in the 158th District, have both been endorsed by Humane PA, the political action committee of the Humane Society of Pennsylvania.
Dinniman and Rzucidlo were the only Democrats from Chester County to receive the endorsement of Humane PA, a nonpartisan organization founded to give animals a voice in Harrisburg.
“I am honored to receive this endorsement,” Dinniman said. “Caring for our dogs, cats, horses and all animals is not a partisan issue – it’s a Chester County value. How we treat animals is a reflection of how we treat each other, and I will continue to work for stronger anti-cruelty laws and humane standards in Pennsylvania.”
“Caring for animals has been a life-long passion of mine,” Rzucidlo said. “Animals bring joy and fun to our lives. They also work to protect and care for us, like K-9 officers and service animals. It is our duty to care for them and treat them kindly and with dignity. I will work for stronger anti-cruelty laws in Pennsylvania and I am honored to have received this endorsement.”
Humane PA supports candidates from all parties based on a single criterion: their support and leadership for furthering animal protection bills in the legislature. The organization is dedicated to electing candidates who demonstrate an understanding and a willingness to work to amend Pennsylvania laws with a goal of eliminating animal cruelty within the Commonwealth.
According to Human PA, in a statewide poll, 86 percent of Pennsylvania voters polled support their legislators’ efforts to ensure humane treatment of animals.
Candidates were endorsed based on their voting record and their responses to the organization’s endorsement survey, as well as follow-up interviews.
Dinniman, who is long known for his strong record on behalf of pets and animals in both Chester County and Harrisburg, received a perfect, 100 percent voting record from Humane PA for the past three legislative sessions (2015/16, 2013/14 and 2011/12).
He led the movement to ban the carbon-monoxide gassing of dogs, cats, and pet animals, launched a mobile pet food cupboard for homebound seniors of those with disabilities, and has sponsored and co-sponsored bills to increase the penalties for animal abuse.
Rzucidlo, who for many years worked in the horse business, is a strong supporter of efforts to increase the penalties for the abandonment or mistreatment of horses, like Senate Bill 294. That legislation, also known as “Cordelia’s Law” adds horses to the current anti-cruelty statute and adds starvation to the list of abuses. This bill unanimously passed the Senate and is currently in the House.
The future for animals in Pennsylvania looks brighter, thanks to the efforts and advocacy of Andy Dinniman and Susan Rzucidlo. Still, there is plenty of work ahead. That is why it is so important that we elect Andy and Susan and humane-minded representatives like them on November 8.
