Fighting for Humane Treatment of Our Companions
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m an animal lover. I continue to work to crack down on puppy mills and tighten animal cruelty laws because it’s the right thing to do and because the way we treat our pets is indicative of the way we treat each other.”
- Senator Dinniman has been a leading advocate for the humane treatment of pets and animals in Pennsylvania. From toughening animal cruelty penalties, to prohibiting the tethering of dogs for extended periods of time, Dinniman has championed a wide range of animal welfare bills in the legislature.
- Dinniman introduced Daniel’s Law, legislation that prohibits the gassing of dogs and cats with carbon monoxide in Pennsylvania. Through the efforts of thousands of pet owners, including hundreds in Chester County who put the pressure on the legislature, Daniel’s Law was unanimously approved and signed into law as Act 182 of 2012.
- Dinniman authored the Pet Protection from Domestic Abuse (Senate Bill 594), which calls for strengthening Pennsylvania’s Animal Cruelty Law to increase the penalty when animal abuse is committed in a domestic-violence situation. Often in these circumstances, abusers will hurt or kill a pet in order to victimize an estranged spouse or significant other.
- Dinniman worked to pass the Pennsylvania Dog Law (Act 119 of 2008) and has supported subsequent updates to put an end to puppy mills and ensure that kennel dogs get proper care.
